Thoughts on Poster

My Project is an academic project, however since the end product will de designed for an Elementary school environment , there needs to be a serious, yet playful, feel to the poster and the overall project. Initially I had thought of a blue and gold color scheme, however that, along with the majority of the poster design, is still up in the air. Neither a quote nor any graphic design aspects have been decided upon yet. An easel would probably be the best option for displaying my poster.

My Capstone Project

I am an English Major, eventually I want to go into teaching. My Capstone project deals with the way plagiarism is taught in schools. Since second grade english, every teacher that I have had has spent more than the necessary amount of time explaining plagersim and how we can avoid it; after 3 years of the same lesson, even the student who sleeps through class knows what it is, and after 10 years of the same lesson, that same student could probably recite verbatim what the teacher is going to say. I have proposed that every 5th grade teacher spend a predetermined amount of time (3-4 weeks) per school year teaching his/her students the Do's and Don't's of plagiarism. My topic has been approved by the Capstone committee.
My final product, what I would actually present to the judges, is a Teacher's Guide to Plagiarism. This Teacher's Guide will lead the teacher, class by class, in what activities they will do with the students during the predetermined time. Lesson plans will be provided in the guide, as well as projects and other productive ideas.
What I hope is that eventually middle and high school teachers will not have to spend so much time talking about plagiarism because their students have already been instructed upon the subject, this will allow more time in the class room for greater instruction.

Poster Research (When Creating a Poster...)

According to stanford.edu, the top five elements to keep in mind when creating a poster are...
     1. The overall attractiveness of the poster
     2. Making sure the work is well-organized
     3. The poster is self-explanetory (i.e. can stand on its own without explanation)
     4. Careful in linking text and imagery so that the poster flows well
     5. The poster must be appropriate to the audience at hand

According to  the poster below represents the criteria listed above. The poster was voted to be one of the best posters of 2012, by flavor wire.com.

As you can see the poster is of a movie named V.H.S. Although I haven not personally seen the movie, I can infer that it is a horror movie. The attractiveness of the poster comes out when one realizes that the skull is actually formed by the arrangement of V.H.S'. The position of the V.H.S' also ties in to the organization of the poster. The transition of the light, white, color closer to the top of the poster, help the eye transition to the bottom of the poster, which contains the title of the movie. Because the arrangement of the V.H.S. is in the form of a skull one can infer that it is a horror movie (criteria number 3). The audience was well linked in its creation and is appropriate to the audiences that enjoy horror movies.
